Shannen Doherty settled her divorce to ex-husband Kurt Iswarienko just one day before her death. What she went through because of the contentious divorce was heartbreaking… “shirk his responsibilities to his dying wife of more than 11 years,” she said of it.
Shannen Doherty and ex-husband Kurt Iswarienko settled their divorce one day prior to the Charmed star’s passing.
Multiple media outlets have stated that paperwork was filed on July 12, indicating they agreed to a “default or uncontested dissolution” of their marriage, implying they resolved their divorce matters outside of court.
According to People, the document stated: “The parties have entered into a written agreement regarding their property and their marriage or domestic partnership rights, including support, the original of which is being or has been submitted to the court.”
Doherty also signed paperwork relinquishing her right to spousal support.
“I knowingly give up forever any right to receive spousal or partner support,” she wrote.
Iswarienko signed the papers on July 13, a day before Doherty lost her battle to cancer.
The Beverly Hills 90210 star filed for divorce from Iswarienko in April 2023, 11 years after they tied the knot.
According to her representative, Leslie Sloane, divorce was the “last thing” Doherty wanted but “she felt she was left with no other option.”
The actress’s request for spousal support sparked a contentious divorce battle.
In June 2024, Doherty claimed that Iswarienko was prolonging the process and deliberately delaying settlement, allegedly in the hope that she would pass away from cancer before the divorce proceedings concluded.
“It is simply not right that Kurt be permitted to prolong our divorce in hopes that I die before he is required to pay me while he continues to live his life and shirk his responsibilities to his dying wife of more than 11 years,” she stated in the documents.
Iswarienko’s lawyer disputed Doherty’s claim, stating that a settlement offer was presented in October 2023, which Doherty allegedly rejected.
“Kurt is not ‘simply wait[ing] for Shannen to die,’” his lawyer Katherine Heersema stated. “He wants the best for Shannen and he wants both of them to be able to put this case behind them and move forward.”
Doherty and Iswarienko exchanged vows in an intimate ceremony in Malibu in October 2011. Their wedding was featured on the season finale of their WEtv reality series, Shannen Says, which documented their wedding preparations. This marked the third marriage for Doherty, following brief marriages to actor Ashley Hamilton from 1993 to 1994 and poker player Rick Salomon from 2002 to 2003.
